Is Stephen a hypocrite in Doctor Strange 2?

Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) leaves a series of questionable decisions as he navigates the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madnessWanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), points out the hypocrisy behind Strange’s decisions when he refuses to help her reunite with her children and uses Darkhold to stop her. But was Wanda right? Did the Scarlet Witch really tell the truth that no one had dared to tell yet, or did she just go too crazy?

Strange’s exact justification for his decisions was, as always: “In the grand reckoning of the multiverse, their sacrifices mean infinitely more than their lives.” He considered that the Scarlet Witch was too dangerous with the power of America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) to travel in the multiverse, so he turned an army against Wanda and followed in the footsteps of other strange variants of dreams. At first glance, his actions appear to be well justified by his motives to protect the multiverse and not for personal gain. However, once viewers look beyond his seemingly heroic rhetoric, Stephen Strange ran into confidence issues despite what he tried to convince himself or others of.

At the beginning Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness, Kristen Palmer told Strange, “You have to be the one holding the knife. I respect you for that, but I can’t love you for that.” Throughout the film, Strange could not trust Wanda, nor did he trust America with its own strength. He would do what the alternate Defender Strange did, trying to control America’s power so he could “protect the multiverse.” The only procedure that Dr. Strange deemed safe was to take matters into his own hands. Earth-616 Strange was so arrogant that even after witnessing the destruction of the universe as he read his variant Darkhold, he chose to use the Dreamwalk spell, ignoring the warnings of Baron Mordo and the Illuminati.

Using Darkhold to stop Wanda, Doctor Strange sacrificed the integrity of the multiverse, and this isn’t the first time he’s done so. at Spider-Man: No way home, A stranger arrogantly used a memory-altering spell and rewrote it six times at Peter Parker’s behest, tearing the boundaries between universes and inviting villains from other universes into their own. In addition, Strange also walked an extreme path in 2016 Dr. Gharib After he lost his hands in a car accident. He refused to live in a reality in which he was not a hero, which led him on the path to becoming a master of the mystical arts. He used magic to heal his hands, but when it came to Panda and her babies, Strange judged her.

Stephen set the rules for himself and others. It also put the multiverse at great risk due to arrogance. His justification sounds like a Band-Aid trying to cover up a gunshot wound. There has always been another way, and Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness Show viewers that Strange America can help Chavez claim its power rather than seize it. He could also help Wanda overcome her grief, but he turned an army against her, and it cost lives.

Doctor Strange is flawed. He was an arrogant hypocrite, and he made mistakes, but Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness He also witnessed his growth and ability to change in the horror-filled adventure of Remy. Unfortunately, his actions still have severe consequences that could damage the multiverse, but Earth-616 Strange has a chance to do it right, as hinted in the post-credit scene. So maybe he was different from other outsiders after all.

To find out how Stephen once again broke the rules, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently in theaters.
