Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Discusses Stepping Up Darth Vader’s Efforts


Hayden Christensen discusses the work he did to return as Darth Vader, and what he had to do to take physical form for him.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Actor Hayden Christensen has revealed how much physical preparation he has put in to get ready to play Darth Vader once again.

In an interview in the latest issue of movie totalChristensen discusses the making of the future Obi-Wan Kenobi String, plus how much he does it in the gym rather than put it in his place. “Most of my work on this project was in the pipeline,” Christensen said. “The physical preparation was intense. I had to take on an appropriate amount of weight and volume to fill the suit.” The actor also gave a hint to the audience that his physical preparation wasn’t just for the suit. When asked about the series’ fight scenes, Christensen said, “We’re more in tune with the pre-shows than we are with how the fights go in the original trilogy. These characters are quite old, but not that much yet.”

Aside from ramping up his role as Darth Vader, Christensen also discussed what fans can expect from the character at Once Obi-Wan Kenobi Reaches the small screen. The actor explained, “He’s a very complex character, and there’s an inherent conflict of identity that’s always there — there’s an inner conflict.” He explained this conflict, saying, “He will always struggle with the loss of Padme. He has buried Anakin deep within. There must always be an element of Anakin there, because in the end he finds salvation in the end – through the love of his son no less.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi It is set to follow the titular Jedi, portrayed by Ewan McGregor, during his life in exile after the Galactic Empire’s rise to prominence. The audience is also supposed to see a lot of Christensen Darth Vader in his search for his former master. This would also be Christensen’s most extensive role as Darth Vader, having only received one peak scene as the Sith Lord fully formed over the course of the Prequel trilogy. Christensen himself has discussed this iteration of the character as “100 percent fully aware Vader. This is, in many ways, Vader in his prime.”

The series marks Christensen’s first return as Darth Vader since 2005 Revenge of the Sith. The series will also act as star Wars Robert Friend’s debut as Inquisitor, a former Jedi Temple guard who has fallen into the dark side. Moses Ingram joins Detective Friend as Detective Riva, aka The Third Sister, another force-sensitive assassin who will work with Christensen Vader to hunt down the remaining Jedi.

Fans can see how far these characters have come for themselves and when Obi-Wan Kenobi Premieres on Disney+ on May 25th.
